FAQ

Montipora corals are small polyp stony (SPS) corals that belong to the Acroporidae family.  Montipora come in many forms and may be the second most popular coral behind Acropora.  There are encrusting, branching, submassive and other forms of Montipora.  And, one colony may show several types of growth.  Montipora come in many different colors and can add lots of color to a saltwater reef tank.

Montipora like a good amount of light in the range of 200 – 300 par, which is less than Acropora but more than most other corals.

Montipora don't require any special feeding.

Montipora like moderate to high water flow.  Their polyps are not too sensitive, but too much flow may cause them to not extend their polyps.  So, if you have higher flow and you see that or if the coral seems to be struggling, you might try reducing the flow.

Montipora are a moderate difficulty coral and are at the easy end of difficulty for SPS coral.  So, if you want to get more into SPS coral, Montipora are a good place to start.  You should have good quality lights and a stable system with good water conditions.  With good conditions they can grow quite quickly.

Montipora are peaceful coral.  But, if they have good conditions, they can grow quickly and you should anticipate that growth when placing the coral.

Water Chemistry:  Nitrates 5 – 10, Phosphate 0.05 -0.1, Alkalinity 8 – 9, and Calcium 400 – 450.

The picture is the exact coral you will receive (WYSIWYG).
