FAQ

Acanthastrea echinata, commonly referred to as Acan Echinata coral or simply "Echinata coral," is another large polyp stony (LPS) coral well-regarded for its striking colors and patterns. It's a favorite among reef enthusiasts but requires thoughtful care to thrive and showcase its full beauty in an aquarium.

Lighting: Acan Echinata corals prefer moderate lighting. Too much light can cause the coral to retract or even bleach, while too little may hinder growth and dull the coloration.

Flow: Moderate, indirect flow is ideal. Strong, direct flow can cause the coral to close up, while insufficient flow may allow debris to settle on the polyps, potentially leading to tissue damage or disease.

    Parameters: Temp 75°F to 82°F (24°C to 28°C), Salinity 1.024 to 1.026 specific gravity, pH 8.1 to 8.4, Alk 8 to 10 dKH, Calcium 400 to 450 ppm, Mag1250 to 1350 ppm

Acan Echinata corals are photosynthetic but benefit greatly from supplemental feeding, which enhances both growth and coloration.

Acan Echinata corals are quite aggressive and can extend sweeper tentacles to sting nearby corals. They will also emit mesenterial filaments to attack competing corals if placed too close.  Be sure to give this coral plenty of space, at least several inches away from other corals, to prevent any damage from its aggressive behavior.

This is a representative picture of the piece of coral you will receive, not the exact piece of coral (almost WYSIWYG).
