Euphyllia Frogspawns have been a staple in saltwater reef aquariums since the inception of the hobby. Featuring long, multi-tipped tentacles reminiscent of frog eggs, this Large Polyp Stony Coral (LPS) is widely cherished for its graceful swaying motion in the water current. Similar in growth pattern and care needs to its Euphyllia relatives—the Hammer coral and the Torch coral—Frogspawn corals exhibit aggressive extension of sweeper tentacles when positioned too closely to other corals.
While typically less aggressive than Hammers and Torches, they can still engage in competitive interactions with neighboring corals, potentially causing harm or fatality. Therefore, careful consideration of placement is important.
Some aquarists have observed clownfish forming large colonies within this LPS coral; however, this behavior may not be optimal as the coral often retreats from constant contact with the fish. The addition of anemones may avoid some of these concerns.
