FAQ

Galaxea corals, belonging to the family Euphylliidae, are popular in the reef-keeping community due to their unique appearance and vibrant coloration. Commonly referred to as Galaxy Coral or Tooth Coral, these corals have striking, star-shaped polyps that can be highly captivating but require careful placement and care in a reef tank.

Lighting:  Galaxea corals thrive under moderate to high lighting. They are photosynthetic, relying on the symbiotic zooxanthellae in their tissue, but too much intense light can cause bleaching.

Flow:  Moderate to strong, turbulent flow is ideal. Galaxea corals do well in areas where water movement is brisk enough to keep the polyps free from debris but not so strong that it forces them to retract frequently.

Parameters:  Temp 75°F to 82°F (24°C to 28°C), Salinity 1.024 to 1.026 specific gravity, pH 8.1 to 8.4, Alk 8 to 10 dKH, Calcium 400 to 450 ppm, Mag1250 to 1350 ppm

Feeding: Although Galaxea corals rely on photosynthesis for energy, they benefit from supplemental feeding, especially in low-light setups.  Offer fine meaty foods like brine shrimp, mysis shrimp, or specialized coral foods. They have a strong feeding response and will extend their tentacles to catch food particles.

Galaxea corals are highly aggressive and can extend long, sweeping tentacles, sometimes up to 12 inches (30 cm), to sting and defend against nearby corals. This makes them a significant threat to neighbors, so ample space around the coral is essential.

This is a representative picture of the coral you will receive, not the exact piece of coral (almost WYSIWYG).
