FAQ

Setosa Coral, also known as Montipora setosa, is a highly prized SPS (small polyp stony) coral within the reef-keeping community, admired for its vibrant coloration and unique growth form. Montipora corals, in general, are considered relatively hardy for SPS species, making them a great option for aquarists looking to add a colorful and visually striking coral to their tanks.

Lighting: Moderate to high lighting. Strong, consistent lighting is crucial to maintaining their vivid coloration and promoting healthy growth.  Place Setosa Coral in the upper to middle areas of the tank to provide adequate light exposure. If introducing it to a new environment or higher light, acclimate it slowly to prevent bleaching or stress.

Flow: Setosa Corals need moderate to strong water flow. Adequate flow is essential to keep the coral clean of debris, promote gas exchange, and deliver nutrients. Strong flow also helps prevent the buildup of detritus, which can lead to tissue damage.

Parameters: Temp 75°F to 80°F (24°C to 27°C), salinity 1.024 to 1.026 specific gravity, pH 8.1 to 8.4, alk 8 to 12 dKH, calcium 400 to 450 ppm, Mag 1250 to 1350 ppm

Food: Montiporas including Setosa, derive most of their energy from photosynthesis through their symbiotic zooxanthellae. However, they can benefit from supplemental feeding. Feed with reef-specific microplankton, phytoplankton, or coral foods designed for SPS corals. Finely powdered foods suspended in the water column are most effective.

Setosa Corals are peaceful and do not possess sweeper tentacles, so they are relatively safe neighbors for other SPS or LPS corals. However, they should not be placed too close to more aggressive species that could damage their delicate tissue.

This is a representative picture of the coral you will receive, not the exact piece of coral (almost WYSIWYG).
