Scolymia, or Scolys, coral are large polyp stony (LPS) corals. Scolys are round in shape and can flat or cup shaped. They come in a wide range of colors and designs. They are not hard to keep but can’t be fragged. Depending on the designs and number and brightness of colors, they can get quite pricy.
Scolys like low to moderate light in the range of 75 – 125 par. Too much light is more of problem than too little. So, if you can, start with less light and slowly acclimate to more light.
Scolys benefit from spot feeding ever so often.
Water flow for Scolys should be low to moderate and indirect – enough to keep them clean and to bring them food. Too much flow can damage their tissue and limit their ability to feed.
Scolys can be a bit aggressive (but not terribly so) as they have sweeper tentacles that get bigger over time. Best to give them a few inches to the next coral.
Water Chemistry: PH 8.0 – 8.4, Nitrate 5 – 10, Phosphate 0.05 – 0.1, Alkalinity 8 0 9 dKh, and Calcium 400 – 450.
