FAQ

Stylocoeniella coral are small polyp stony (SPS) coral in the Astrocoeniidae family.  Stylocoeniella are encrusting coral and come in a wonderful range of colors and color combinations.  Common colors include red, orange, green and shades of red-brown.  Stylocoeniella are easy to keep and are a good beginner coral.

Stylocoeniella like moderate light of about 150 par.  Like many corals, too much light is not a good thing.  Corals need to acclimate if you want to move the light intensity higher.  So, start a bit lower and slowly work up until the coral seems happy and is doing well.

Stylocoeniella are not aggressive and generally don’t harm other coral.  However, they also don’t have defenses so you want to give them some room to protect them from other corals.

There isn’t any special feeding for Stylocoeniella as they get most of their food from their symbiotic relationship with the zooanthellae in their tissue.  But, they do feed from the water column.  You may want to add some rotifers and vitamins ever so often as an additional food source.

Water flow should be moderate to even high flow, ideally with an alternating flow pattern.  Their polyps are not that sensitive to water flow but going overboard with the flow may cause them to retract their polyps.  If you see that, back off of the flow a bit.

Water Chemistry:  PH 8.0 – 8.4m Nitrates 5 – 10, Phosphates 0.05m – 0.1, Alkalinity 8 - 9 dKh, and Calcium 400 – 450.
